Katherine Howe's novel, Conversion, follows Colleen Rowley, a high schooler who attends the private school known as St. Joan's Academy in Danvers, Massachusetts. Colleen leads a normal life of a high school senior, grades, friends, and college applications. However, the normal routine of all the girl's attending the school is put to a halt when multiple medical mishaps such as hair loss and seizures happen throughout the whole school. The sickness is so random that no one knew what was happening to the students. As word and rumors spread, the media becomes involved, and soon enough everyone knows of the mystery illness going around St. Joan's. Colleen discovers after reading "The Crucible", that Danvers was in fact a Salem Village centuries ago. She believes that the happenings at the school may be tied into the similar epidemic that spread in the same area so many years ago.
